The move ignited debate across the country about the rights of pet owners versus airline travellers, resulting in a special committee hearing in the House of Commons late last year. It was scheduled to resume in the new year, until Parliament was prorogued.

Spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick said there is more risk of animal dander brought on board by a pet owner’s clothing than the pets themselves. There are no plans to change the pet policy.

“This is something that all airlines around the world allow,” said Fitzpatrick. “It’s a common policy throughout the industry.”
