BALTIMORE – With the summer travel season underway, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) anticipates nearly 470,000 vehicles will travel the Bay Bridge this July 4th holiday weekend.

MDTA advises motorists to avoid significant delays this holiday weekend by traveling off-peak.  The best times to travel the Bay Bridge include:

Thursday, July 1, before 12 noon and after 9 p.m.
Friday, July 2, before 12 noon and after 10 p.m.
Saturday, July 3, before 7 a.m. and between 5 and 10 p.m.
Sunday, July 4, between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. and after 10 p.m.
Monday, July 5, before 11 a.m. and after 10 p.m.

MDTA says Stay Alert So No One Gets Hurt:

Avoid sightseeing when crossing the bridge.
Stay in your vehicle in the event of stopped traffic/back-ups.
Devote your full attention to driving; it is illegal to text while driving.
Keep a safe following distance to avoid rear end collisions and do not change lanes while traveling over bridges.
